Ho-la-la-la-la-iday Cards!

Just dropped this custom moving announcement/holiday card combo in the mail today! A festive idea brought to me by Sarah to let her family and friends know where to send their season's greetings this year.

Sunday

Maps...and things

These maps from These Are Things are gorgeous! These silk screened beauties would look great on my wall.

This print also for sale in their shop made me chuckle. For some reason like to give myself a pep talk via wall art - it would go nicely with this print from Bithermann I hung last year.

I dream in software...

Speaking of type design, this new feature in Illustrator CS5 looks incredible!

omg. i love illustrator cs5 from Jessica Hische on Vimeo.

For only $200 bucks I can upgrade my software! (Can you believe it costs $600 to buy this new!? And for Illustrator only!)

Wednesday

Ta-Da!

I submitted my alphabet to the contest over at Design*Sponge last night. In a nutshell, the requirements were to submit a 26 letter alphabet complete with the name spelled out with your letters. I named mine Marzipan, and as promised, here it is!

It started off very over-worked and busy, and I eventually edited it down to just the outline. I haven't decided if I like it or not, but what do I have to lose? Keep your fingers crossed that I'll be selected as one of the ten finalists that will be voted on by D*S readers! They should be posting the finalists on Friday, so be sure to check it out!

My ToDo list is ever growing and I'm hoping to get a holiday card or two out by the end of the week. Things like the stomach flu have been slowing me down though...grr

Thursday

Say Cheese..

After finally taking the plunge and starting up the Lovely Post blog, I've really been feeling like the next big step is taking some great photos to post in the shop and use here on the blog. So far I've managed to take some mediocre, and truthfully, boring photos of my stationery.

Taking good product photos is really difficult and really important when selling online. It's up to the photos to do the product justice! I've been researching around for some tips on how to improve my product photos and here are some resources I've found helpful so far:

The 5 C's of Photos Styling with Kim Ludy of Trampoline and Etsy's Guide to Photography

I'm excited to shop for some staging accessories and test out some of these tips! I'm not excited about reading my camera manual, however. Ah well, beauty is pain.

Monday

See Ya Halloween!

Poof! Halloween is over and everyone has their sights set on Christmas already. Its a little sad how Thanksgiving - a holiday that I love - gets lost in the shuffle. You would think that a country that loves eating so much would really rally behind a holiday centered mostly around food...

I suppose we love stuff more.

On that note, Gifted Magazine is full of neat stuff including DIY projects and great gift ideas for the holidays! I love the idea of an online magazine: all the benefits of a paper magazine, but with the ability to click on links.. and paperless! Gifted Magazine is affiliated with Creature Comforts, a great design blog I recently stumbled across - check out these incredible paper sculptures they featured by Anna Wili Highfield:

PS - That owl is getting me excited for the new HP movie! I'm desperately trying to finish the series again before it comes out on November 19!
